The Columbus Monument, which opened in 1888 during the Universal Exhibition, stands at the end of La Rambla. Take the lift to the viewing gallery at the top, 179 ft. above the ground, where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the port.

Christopher Columbus disembarked in Barcelona harbor when he returned from his voyage to America?.
To commemorate the event, we suggest you visit the Monument dedicated to this unique historical moment. You'll be able to admire the sculptural ensemble around the base of the magnificent Corinthian-style iron column.

When you get to the top, you'll be able to enjoy stunning 360º views. For instance, to the north, you'll see the Gothic Quarter with the bell towers of the cathedral, Santa Maria del Mar and La Mercè or the bustling Rambla. To the south, you'll see Mount Montjuïc, with the castle at the top. Montjuïc is also the site of museums, gardens, theaters and the Olympic Ring. If you look down, you'll see the Royal Shipyards, the Drassanes, which are home to the Museu Marítim.

If you look east and follow the coastline, you'll be able to see the modern Forum area with its characteristic photo voltaic roof and skyscrapers. Closer to you, the twin towers mark the entrance to the Olympic Marina. At your feet you'll see the old harbor, the Port Vell, and the industrial port. Finally, to the west, you'll see the Parc Natural de Collserola, the vast green "lung" that surrounds the city, with the Collserola Tower and Tibidabo Amusement Park at the top.

Four of the best varieties of cava and wine with Designation of Origin status: from the coastal area of Alella to the inland region of Pla de Bages, the innovative D.O. Catalunya and world-renowned Penedès accompanied by a sweet or salty tapa while you listen to a brief explanation of your choice of wine.

You'll also find information about activities and discover everything there is to do in Catalonia regarding wine tourism experiences. And you’ll be able to buy the wines you’ve tasted.

Discover the cocoa and the secrets of chocolate with this admission ticket. A unique space where you can travel to the origins of this delicacy, know its process and admire the impressive works of the best pastry and chocolatier Masters of the Country.

Visit: Museu de la Xocolata

The Chocolate Museum is a dynamic facility promoted by the Barcelona Confectionery Guild and located in the former Sant Agustí monastery. It provides a journey through the origins of chocolate, its arrival in Europe and its spread as an element between myth and reality, its medicinal properties and nutritional value, relating tradition with the future and forming part of our collective imagination.

The Chocolate Museum is located in a historic building that already had a relationship with chocolate: in the 18th century the Bourbon army was a fanatical consumer of chocolate and, according to the ordinances, chocolate was present on the menus of the 18th-century military academies: “For breakfast each cadet and company officer shall be given one and a half ounces of chocolate with a quarter of a pound of bread...”. When the troops were in barracks, acting as garrison, chocolate was also commonly eaten. The halberdier corps, the monarch’s personal bodyguard, was enviously known as the “chocolateros”, because, as they were a pampered, elite corps, they consumed a great deal of chocolate.

Since the age of discovery in the 15th century, chocolate has played a role in the economic and social fabric of Barcelona. Along these lines, Barcelona port acted as a starting point for the sale and distribution of the product all over Europe.

In addition, the first workshop that transformed drinking chocolate into a solid product is recognised to have existed in the city at the end of the 19th century.
